Current Information:Born-Mitcham Gorre British & Indian Cemetery, France
On 6th January, 1917, 1st East Surrey of 95 Brigade, 5th Division, moved into the front line trenches at Festubert, near Bethune in France where both sides were content to live and let live during the bleak winter months. They remained here until relieved on 10th January. The Battalion Diary entry for 8th January simply records that it was ‘another quiet day’, but not quiet enough for James Wyatt who was killed on that day, probably as a result of sporadic shell fire. |
